5 razas de perro para pisos pequeños o apartamentos

5 dog breeds for small flats or apartments

Even if you’re a true animal lover, if you live in a small apartment, you have to be realistic: not every dog is a good fit. But that doesn’t mean you can’t have a dog.

AND IT'S NOT JUST SMALL DOGS

There are many breeds that are perfect for small spaces, and not just because of their size. Medium dogs like the Beagle, or even larger ones like the Greyhound, Border Collie, or Labrador, can adapt wonderfully to apartment living.

Of course, you'll need to feed them well and take them out for walks so they can burn off all that energy. When you both return to your cozy home, they'll be thrilled to relax and enjoy your company.

SOME OF THE BEST BREEDS FOR SMALL SPACES

Schnauzer in a small apartment

Miniature Schnauzer: if you choose a Miniature Schnauzer, you'll discover a cheerful, smart, and affectionate little companion who adores their family and is full of playful energy. They love to learn and adapt beautifully to home life. Thanks to their size, they're perfect for city strolls, shopping trips, or running errands. In a cozy apartment, always close to their owner or family, they'll feel happy and secure.

Poodle in a small flat

Poodle: there are different varieties, but for small spaces, the Toy Poodle (usually under 5 kg) or the Miniature Poodle (around 13 kg) are the best fit. They're playful, quick learners, and among the longest-living dogs—some can live up to 18 years. It's important to socialize them from a young age, and with good training, they're affectionate and sociable.

Maltese in a small flat

Maltese: small, affectionate, and calm. They adapt perfectly to small spaces, barely weighing over 3 kg. They love to relax and spend time with the family, soaking up cuddles and affection. They also enjoy playing and are great with other pets, whether dogs or cats. While they don't need a lot of exercise or long walks, it's important to dedicate quality time to play and attention. They shed very little, making them ideal for people with allergies.

Chihuahua in a small flat

Chihuahua: considered the smallest dog in the world. They measure between 15 and 20 cm and weigh between 2 and 3 kg, making them perfect for small flats or apartments. Even if they live in a house with a yard or garden, it's best not to leave them outside for long, as they're quite sensitive to the cold. They're loving and very attached to their owner, but it's important not to spoil them too much, as this can lead to unwanted behaviors.

Yorkshire in a small flat

Yorkshire Terrier: one of the most popular breeds in the world. Affectionate and loyal to their family, but a bit wary of strangers—they won't hesitate to bark at them. With the right training, positive reinforcement, and rewards for good behavior, they learn quickly and respond well. They weigh just over 3 kg and stand under 20 cm tall, making them ideal for small spaces. They're active and playful, so it's important to socialize them from puppyhood to prevent jealous or destructive behaviors.

There are other dog breeds that can easily adapt to smaller spaces: Pomeranian, French Bulldog, Dachshund (or sausage dog), Miniature Pinscher, Pug… even a mixed-breed dog or crossbreed, as long as they're the right size, is perfect for living in an apartment or small flat. As we've mentioned, even some larger breeds with a calm temperament can be a great fit too.

Choose yours and enjoy their company and unconditional love.
