Our Story

Juan Carlos with his dog

It all started at home.

Hi, I'm Juan Carlos. I'm behind Baluka day-to-day, but this project was born at home, with María José, from something as simple as wanting to take better care of our dog.

At one point, he started having joint discomfort, a bursitis that made us realize something we hadn't paid enough attention to until then: rest was not a minor detail.

We tried viscoelastic beds, cheap mattresses, fabrics that promised a lot... until they stopped doing so after a few weeks. Some seemed comfortable at first but quickly deformed. Others accumulated hair, dust, dirt, and odors too easily.

Also, I'm very allergic, and there were beds I literally couldn't even get close to. That made us understand that a good bed shouldn't only take care of the dog, but also of the hygiene of the home and daily coexistence.

Why accept for them something we wouldn't accept for ourselves?

That's how it all started: researching, comparing materials, trying combinations, and improving again and again until we arrived at a comfortable, hygienic, practical, and durable bed.

Materials and process

Born from affection, but built with criteria.

Baluka was not born as a cold business idea. It was born from a real need at home. But from the beginning, we knew that affection was not enough: it had to be done right.

That's why every material has a purpose. The viscoelastic, for rest. The technical fabrics, for hygiene. Local manufacturing, for control and proximity. Durability, because we were tired of beds that only seemed good for a few weeks.

Today, Baluka is still that: a way to take better care of their rest, without giving up a clean, practical, and comfortable home for everyone.

Why we did it this way

Every decision was born from a real problem.

We chose viscoelastic for support, not for fashion.

We wanted a bed that wouldn't sag after a few weeks and that would truly help the dog rest better.

We sought more hygienic fabrics because we experienced it at home.

Hair, dust, odors, and stains are not theoretical. They happen every day. That's why we needed fabrics that were easy to clean and more pleasant to live with.

It was important to us that hair wouldn't get stuck. We wanted a bed that would coexist well with the dog... and also with the home.

A dog bed should be comfortable, but also practical. If cleaning it becomes a constant struggle, something is wrong.

We decided to manufacture it in Spain because we wanted to control every detail and not depend on mass production.

We wanted to be close to the process, choose materials well, and work with local workshops and suppliers who understood the level of detail we were looking for.

Our way of caring for them

Because they are part of the family.

Baluka is a project born at home, from the real experience of living with dogs and wanting to do it a little better every day.
